After six years of operational and strategic marketing experience at a global FMCG company, I decided to look for a new challenge to help my personal development. I found the position of Brand Group Manager of Safety 1st at Dorel. This job appealed to me, since the brand had to be re-launched in Europe. This is a unique opportunity for a marketing professional. I love setting up new things. It feels like you’re running your own business. It’s about making strategic choices like brand positioning, but, at the same time, it’s also about implementation. Last but not least, it’s about empowering the team. Doing this on the European market completes the challenge.
There are two key strengths that I appreciate at Dorel, namely empowerment and the international context. When you show initiative, you can really make things happen. There’s a lot of interaction and best-practice sharing throughout the company, not only at top level management. In my role as Brand Group Manager I had strong interfaces with the US as well as colleagues in all European countries. The diversity in employees and their different ways of thinking is something I value at work. It opens up your mind and nurtures you because you can learn from each other.
Recently, I moved into sales after working in marketing for nine years. At present, I’m Key Account Manager for some major French clients. I can broaden my experience and further develop my skills in the fields of sales and operations. This really is the heartbeat of the company. There are many challenges ahead and there’s lots of scope for growth, and that encourages me. You feel the team spirit at Dorel, and people really do encourage each other. Colleagues get along well and we also spend time together after work. After hard work, there’s always time for relaxation.
My favourite book is ‘Le Petit Prince’. The book teaches you to see the world through the eyes of a child, to be open-minded, and to be tolerant.
